Education and Experience:
Ed Gaston began his professional career as a Trumpet player at the age of fifteen. In 1981 he received his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Tennessee. He studied composition with Dr. John Lennon, Jazz arranging with Jerry Coker and arranging and composition with Barry McDonald.. Upon completion of his studies he moved to Nashville where he wrote and performed for 3 years with Danny Davis & The Nashville Brass. He spent the next 6 years working with Boots Randolph. While in Nashville, Ed began to publish his work, first with Arrangers’ Publishing Corp. and later with CPP-Belwin and Hal Leonard. Ed was also the Staff Arranger for the University of Tennessee “Pride of the Southland” for 2 years.
In 1991 Mr. Gaston moved to Orlando, Florida to continue his music career. For nearly ten years he has worked in the roles of professional musician/sideman and arranger/orchestrator in the Central Florida area. He has written for each of the Disney theme parks in Florida, California, Paris and Tokyo. Some of his key projects include orchestrations for the Toy Story Parade for Disney’s MGM Studios and Mickey’s Winter Wonder Christmas Show entitled “Country Christmas” for Disneyland Paris. His arrangements are featured on several CD’s, they are: Bill Allred’s Classic Jazz Band’s “Versatility”, Somer Dreams Orchestra’s “Mid-Somers Night Dream”, Stan Mark’s “Here’s Stan Mark” and a soon to be released CD from Kevin Clark for Bose Speakers.
Edward has composed for many groups, the two most memorable pieces for him are “Fanfare for Retreat” for the Magic Kingdom Retreat Ceremony, and “Sovereign Sound”, the signature piece for the Sovereign Brass Quintet. Ed has worked with many talented musicians in the industry, among them are: Floyd Cramer, Chet, Atkins, Al Hirt, Red Skelton, Buddy Morrow, Si Zentner, Liberace, Eddie Arnold, Ray Anthony and the Mills Brothers.
Ed Gaston’s goals in life are simple; to continue doing what he loves and keep getting paid for it. He enjoys spending his free time with his children, preferably in the kitchen. He LOVEs to cook. He states that his greatest achievement is to have made it this far!
Something shocking about Ed is the intensity of his red hair.
